1212 - Another Legend of HK Football

After the famous "512" in 1985, we have finally another important date for the Hong Kong history of football. The so-called "1212" marked the first champion of our HK football team in country-based sports games. No one believed those guys can beat Japan before the final match yesterday. However, with a near 30,000 people support in the stadium they could finally make this miracle become truth after a 120 minutes 1:1 and win on penalty kick-out as 4:2. Of course, their never give-up spirit also accounted for their success.
While making this as the most legendary event of the whole 2009 Hong Kong East Asian Games, while I saw our Chief Executive in a completely exciting mood and 100% devoted into the match,
I am thinking how our government treated HK football development in these years: Abolish football as the elite-subsidies plan, Demolish our HK Sports Centre in Sha Tin for the sake of changing it to Equestrian Venue for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. These actions are just obviously telling us our government was not keen on HK football development.
Needless to say, Football is always one of the most successful way to consolidate different people's consensus. When all of us focus on cheering-up our team, the atmophere and spirit were so wonderful and amazing as in the HK Stadium last evening. Nevertheless, I cannot find any reason to explain why the attitude of our government was so apathetic to it in these years. Even those you can successfully divert the attention of our HK people from extreme economic and political issues to this amazing and legendary East Asian Games, it is only a short-term measure. Or do you really only know how to tackle problem with short-term measures and without any complete and long-term contribution and plan?
